How to Get into a Sanitizing Routine While at Sea

You're ready to get back out into the world again, but traveling still has its risks. While a cruise to a tropical destination is just what you deserve after a long year of social distancing, you'll want to make sure you take all the necessary precautions to stay safe while on board and avoid germs and bacteria as much as possible. Here are some easy tips for getting into a sanitizing routine while at sea.

Avoid putting bags or luggage directly on the bed.

Leave your luggage on the floor, on top of a mat, or in the closet to avoid introducing any new germs, bacteria, or stowaway bedbugs (!) to your bedding. You never know what might have latched onto your bags since you left the house!

Remove any decorative bedding.

While the bed linens are washed and changed frequently, any decorative bedspreads, pillows or blankets may not be quite as sanitary. Just to be safe, stow them away in a closet or drawer when you first arrive and leave them there for the remainder of your cruise.

Pack the proper cleaning supplies.

While the cruise staff does everything they can to sanitize your space before your departure, you can take a few simple additional steps to ensure you have the safest experience possible. Come prepared with the right cleaning supplies so you have the option to deep-clean your cabin at any time during your trip.

  • Pack disinfectant wipes so you can wipe down all door handles, light switches, phones, remote controls, bathroom surfaces, balcony furniture and any other hard surfaces in the cabin on day one to kill any leftover germs the cleaning staff may have missed.

  • Bring a plastic zip bag for the remote control – after disinfecting it, place it in the bag and zip it shut for the remainder of the trip. You can still operate the remote without touching it directly or removing it from the bag!

  • Pack a small bottle of dish soap so you can thoroughly wash any kitchenware or glassware with soap and hot water before use.

  • Bring hand sanitizer to carry with you around the ship and on your excursions.

Bring a UV Sanitizer as an added bonus! Utilimedic's UV8LED Phone Sanitizer & Wireless Charger is the perfect travel companion that will allow you to close the lid on COVID and welcome peace of mind. This mobile device will fit easily into your luggage so you can sanitize your phone and other travel items while on the ship. With 8 high-power UV-C LEDs, the UV8LED kills 99.9% of germs and bacteria in just 5 minutes, leaving your phone and other items fully sanitized.

Set the UV8LED on your nightstand so you can remember to quickly sanitize your items while in your cabin:

  • Sanitize your sunglasses or credit card after a day at the pool.

  • Sanitize your phone after a night in the casino or one of the many bars onboard.

  • Sanitize your room key before heading back out for the evening.

  • Quickly charge your phone before dinner with the wireless Qi charging feature.

 Wash your hands.

While this one may seem like a no-brainer, you'll want to make a mental note to wash your hands more frequently than usual. You'll spend a lot of time walking around onboard, participating in various activities and touching many surfaces and items throughout your cruise. Wash your hands thoroughly and often to keep the germs at bay
